Although, these days, stenography has been lakhs of students’ goal and they have been either preparing for it by heart or planning to pursue this skill in near future, however, there are no reliable sources on the internet which can guide them to the career path of Stenography in India. Therefore, we intend to write this online journal which may help you in seeking success in this career path in India.
Is Stenography art?
The Stenography is derived from a Greek word steganos meaning “concealed”. These days this skill is used to jot down at a speed of speech. A man can normally speak at a speed of 180 words per minutes and it is impossible for someone to take/note down a person’s speech at once. If we consider typing as a way of noting down such speech, it is impractical type in more than 80-100 words per minutes.
A skilled professional using a stenotype machine can type as fast as 200 words per minutes normally. It is also known as live subtitling.
Stenography encompasses Shorthand, Transcription, and Typewriting. Wherever there is a need of quick and verbatim record of the spoken words, it calls for stenography at first priority.
How is Stenography done?
Basically, there is a machine similar to the typing keyboard known as Stenotype Machine, with lesser keys than that of a normal QWERTY one, on which the typing is done. This special machine makes it possible for a person to write down that fast. The principal of stenography is to write the words syllable by syllable instead of letter by letter. It’s somewhat like playing piano.
