The National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI), is leading institute for dairy science and technological research in India and was granted the status of Deemed university in 1989. In the year 1955, NDRI headquarters was shifted to Karnal and facilities at Bangalore centre were continue to function as a Regional Station to perform duties for the states of southern region. It was developed and renamed as Imperial Dairy Institute in 1936 and in 1947 after independence it was named as National Dairy Research Institute. Originally, NDRI was started as Imperial Institute of Animal Husbandry and Dairying in 1923 at Bangalore.

NDRI also offers B.Tech in dairy technology, and Master’s and Ph.D. programmes in dairying. These programmes also are offered at its Southern Regional field at Bangalore city. Admissions to those courses are through the all India entrance examinations conducted by the ICAR, New Delhi.
NDRI may be a deemed university functioning below the Indian Council of Agricultural analysis (ICAR).

Eligibility

National Dairy Research Institute offers b.tech in dairy technology, and karnal, Bangalore and Sheth MC college of dairy science of excellence for it. The eligibility for admission in b.tech course is 12th pass with minimum 505 marks in physics, chemistry and maths (PCM). Admission is made on the basis of entrance examination and choice of course is made on the basis of ranks obtained in entrance examination.
Master’s degree courses also there in dairy science and technology that are offered at very few veterinary or agricultural science and animal husbandry colleges.

In this degree programme of 4 years (8 semester) they offers intensive training in processing and quality control of milk and dairy products and engineering aspects of dairy processing equipment’s.
